We built these custom bathroom cabinets for a Huntington Beach resident that had a pretty good idea of what she wanted – both in terms of design and materials, which made it much easier for us to share her vision.
We used prefinished Maple plywood for the interior cabinet box construction, which was also used for the drawer boxes with dovetail corners. Natural Alder material was used for the doors, drawer fronts, fillers, and side panels; a light Espresso stain and lacquer finish was applied to these materials. The variation in stain absorption you often see in natural wood material created a beautiful flow between the lighter and darker hues across the cabinetry.
In terms of the function of the vanity cabinets, we made sure to use the best Blum hardware available. The drawers were affixed using self-closing under-mount ball-bearing slides that extended fully to ensure easy reach into any portion of each drawer. Blum branded hardware was also used for the cabinet doors, adjustable in 5 degrees. Consistent reveal between the doors and drawer fronts was maintained with precise installation procedure. The only thing left to do for the homeowners was to install the fixtures and the white beadboard underneath the middle vanity section – with these last touches complete, the end result is pretty close to a perfect bathroom!
