We always tell our customers that the custom woodwork portion of our business always includes the most exciting and unique projects – this is a perfect example of the diversity you will find in our custom wood work across Orange County and Los Angeles regions.
The box pictured here is a miniature version of the final box, of which we were retained to build only 7 larger versions, one for each print of Elger’s famous work. These boxes are essentially high-end display cases for the art work, allowing the pieces to be safely stored, transported, and marketed to buyers – a few of our customers referred to it as a fancy “cigar box”. We used a combination of plywood and solid White Oak material for the box, together with the application of natural White Oak veneer. Unlike the more commonly found Red Oak, White Oak boasts exponentially more interesting grain pattern, especially at varying angles of light. It is exactly this abstract grain pattern that is sought in creating the box, as it complements the art work perfectly and definitely makes the impression of exclusivity represented by its contents.
