These custom kitchen cabinets were built using Thermofoil door and drawer front material in the European frameless construction. These kitchen cabinets were built using flush inset framed style, with semi-gloss white lacquer. The entire island and the long row of cabinets were actually built as two fully assembled cabinets to make sure that the finish on the frame was seamless throughout - if the cabinets were assembled using many separate cabinets, which is the conventional technique, you would be able to see lines where the cabinets meet. While having two huge cabinets fully assembled and finished created a spectacular finished product, it created a more difficult situation in transporting the product to the home through the unpaved roads. Nevertheless, this project was extremely fun for us and created a kitchen truly unlike any other!

This cabinetry was completed for a Santa Monica resident using Alder material for all the doors, drawer fronts, and paneling, and if you look close enough you will notice the extra tricks we used to maximize the small space. Such small kitchens are often very deceiving in simplicity while in reality the building process is exponentially more complicated because every inch of space truly matters to the customers and we have to carefully plan to make as much of it usable as possible. The doors and drawer fronts were built in Shaker style and the side panels were flat Alder to provide a cleaner look that matches the overall concept the architect and home owner envisioned.

If you spend a few minutes analyzing this photo you will start to see the details that made this job more complicated and required greater planning - how we built around the pillar to the top left is a perfect example of an issue that is definitely more difficult to deal with than it initially seems.

This picture shows the corner that presented the most challenges, where essentially four lines of cabinetry met and where we also had to plan for the enclosed pantry space accessible from the other side of the kitchen. You also get a glimpse of the pull-out pantry next to the refrigerator in the closed position.

This was a project that balanced functionality, aesthetics, and budget constraints in a fantastic outcome for the client. We used Thermofoil doors and drawer fronts over white melamine boxes, using 3/4" thick melamine material. For the hardware we used German made Blum slides and hinges. For an aesthetic touch, we incorporated the subtle use of glass doors and open shelving.

For an aesthetic touch, we incorporated the subtle use of glass doors and open shelving.
